Ice Hockey FAQs

Find answers to common questions about our ice hockey activities, including costs, officials, insurance, contact rules, and participation eligibility.

Is there a cost to join the league?

Yes, there is a cost—but we’re working hard to keep it as low as possible. The biggest expense is ice time, and while we’re actively partnering with businesses to help cover this, teams will initially share the cost among themselves.

Our long-term goal? To have ice time heavily subsidised, allowing every player the chance to participate without financial barriers.

Can anyone play?

Yes—and no. Elevate Hockey is open to all players, but it’s specifically designed for those who are committed to the sport but often miss out on regular league games at their club. This is a league for development—not domination.

We ask clubs to be responsible and respect the spirit of the competition when submitting teams. That means selecting players who truly need more game time to grow and ensuring every player gets fair ice time throughout the season.

Elevate is about opportunity, not exclusion. Let’s keep it that way.

What about safeguarding?

Player safety is our top priority. All Elevate personnel will have an in-date DBS check and we have a Level 2 qualified safeguarding lead within the organisation to oversee safe practice across the league.

That said, we also expect each team registering to have its own safeguarding arrangements in place including a designated safeguarding lead and procedures that align with national standards.

Creating a secure environment for young players is a shared responsibility, and we’re committed to upholding it at every level of the league.
